Curtain & Blinds Installation in Singapore: What to Expect Before, During & After
What To Expect For Your Curtain & Blinds Installation
When you are renovating to move into your new home, deciding what curtains and blinds to have is only half the job done. The other half would involve the installation of your curtains and blinds.
Knowing what to expect before and during your installation will help you avoid last minute surprises and set clear expectations on timing, costs, warranty and workmanship. In this guide, we will give you a walk through of the journey from first contact to after care.
Before Installation: Getting Your Curtains & Blinds Measurements Done
At Ace Curtains, before we talk about installation, you will be able to get a free onsite measurement and sample viewing. This is where you solidify our interior designs plan and set the date for when to get your curtains and blinds installed.
The Measurement Process
Most reputable curtain and blinds companies in Singapore follow a similar pattern:
- Step 1: Contact the curtains & blinds company to ask for an estimated quote and setup an on-site appointment
- Step 2: The curtains & blinds specialist will visit your home. Let them what you want installed in each room – day & night curtains or window blinds
- Step 3: They will take actual measurements instead of going by your digital floor plan. You may browse samples while they are taking measurements
- Step 4: When taking measurements, they will take note if there’s any uneven flooring, where your curtain tracks or wall brackets can be mounted. Be sure to let them know if you intend to install any pelmet (if it hasn’t been installed)
- Step 5: Discuss with the curtains & blinds specialist if you have any requests or questions, tell them what kind of fabric, material or colour you’ve decided on
- Step 6: If the specifications are confirmed, they will be able to provide you with a confirmed quote on the spot. If you still require more time deciding on the designs and materials, you can arrange to visit their showroom for more variety
- Step 7: If you are agreeable to the quote, make a quick deposit payment to confirm your order. Your curtains & blinds provider will be able to lock in your order and arrange for production immediately
Note: At this stage, speak to your blinds specialist if you are sensitive to lights when sleeping. Blinds tend to have more light leak points and will require accessories to counter that. We talked this in our difference between blackout blinds vs blackout curtains post.
Drilling Concerns and HDB Rules
Drilling on walls is allowed in HDB flats. Always ensure that the curtains & blinds installers follow HDB rules and avoid drilling into structural beams or prohibited areas.
If you know of any false ceiling, walls or risky areas (e.g. water pipe behind a wall) in your home, always highlight to the representative during your onsite appointment so they can note it down for their installation team.
The Production Process
Production lead time varies for each company. Some companies can take up to 21 working days. For Ace Curtains, our production lead time generally take 10-14 working days. Usually faster or sometimes longer depending on the season, types of window furnishings and stock availability.
Installation Time: How Long Does It Take?
Knowing the installation duration will help you plan your day better. Some customers prefer to know how long it will take because they have other obligations or are arranging for furniture to be moved in or other works to be done the same day.
Typical Timeline by Job Type
Typically at Ace Curtains & Furnishing, our experienced installation team will only require up to 90 mins to complete a job for a full HDB home. However, sometimes it might take longer depending on the number of installation required in a single location.
- Full HDB home and standard condo (all bedrooms + living room): Usually within 90 mins in a single visit
- Condo or landed house with full-height glass or many set of blinds: Can take up to 3-5 hours in a single visit
Most companies will give you a date and time slot for installation when your curtains and blinds are ready. Always try to give a buffer of +/- 1 hour because there might be unexpected delays due to previous installation or road conditions; or issues like obstruction or extra hardware to adjust.
What To Prepare Before Installation Team Arrives
Typically a home is in move-in condition when curtains and blinds are set to be installed. If your furniture are already moved in:
- Shift your furniture to clear the way for the installer so they can move and install your curtains or blinds with ease
- Cover your furniture with protective sheet to avoid dust (there should be minimal dust if they are using drills with vacuum)
- If you are on a tight schedule or have a renovation lock, inform the curtains & blinds company about these details
If there are no furniture, you can simply let the installation team in and wait for them to be done with your installation. Some vacuuming might be needed after the job is done.
During Installation: What Happens Step by Step
Seeing the process gives you confidence that your installer is experienced and thorough.
Step‑by‑Step Installation (Typical Workflow)
- Installer check and prep the area
- Mark drill points
- Drill and affix brackets
- Attach the curtain tracks or blinds headrail
- Final drilling to affix all the brackets securely
- Hang up your curtains and test the blinds if they operate smoothly
- Final inspection and basic cleanup before leaving
Before the installation team leaves, you can go through each room and check on your curtains or blinds and ask them for adjustment or advice if you find any issues.
After Installation: Aftercare and Maintenance
The curtains & blinds company you’ve engaged would have warranty coverage for their product and installation quality. Always check with them before confirming your order.
If you face any issues upon installation, contact them for assistance. Professional curtain company will be happy to make minor adjustments for you after the job.
Maintenance Of Curtains & Blinds
- Regular light vacuuming with brush attachment can remove dust on the surface of your curtains
- Avoid pulling hard on the curtains if they feel stuck
- Parents with toddlers should take note to avoid having the curtains pulled downwards to prevent injuries from happening
- Wipe down your blinds with a damp cloth or dust them regularly to maintain cleanliness

Warranty and What It Covers
Most curtains & blinds companies should provide a warranty for the products you’ve purchased. Understanding the warranty period and warranty covered will prevent frustrations later on. At Ace Curtains, we provide 2 year warranty for our product but not including usage wear and tear.
Typical Warranty Types
- Labour / Installation warranty: Some companies will cover labour during the warranty period so you don’t have to pay to get things fixed if the issue was caused by their work
- Hardware warranty: Most companies will offer a limited year warranty that covers the hardware they used for installation (e.g. brackets, tracks, motor)
- Fabric warranty: Usually not needed if you’ve gone with a reputable company who provide quality fabric for your curtains. Some companies will provide fabric warranty if there’s a manufacturing defect (e.g fading, uneven colours, etc)
