What Are Roller Blinds?

Roller blinds comes in a single piece of fabric wrapped around a high quality steel tube. It is a type of window blinds that provide simple, clean look and lines to your interior design.

There are three types of Roller Blinds fabric:

  • Blackout
  • Dimout
  • Perforated

The key advantage of roller blinds is that it provides you with a simple function that you need. A blackout roller blind will give you full privacy and light blockage. A dimout roller blind will give you privacy while letting in soft lighting. A perforated blind will give you privacy during the day and block out harsh lighting.

Blackout roller blinds are very affordable for home owners and offices. They are made with a thick, opaque fabric to block out light and provide maximum privacy. They are a great addition for:

  • Total privacy at home for bedrooms and nurseries and office
  • May not be suitable for you if you are sensitive to lights when sleeping as there will be light leaks on at least 3 sides of the blind

Wabi Sabi (Dimout) Roller Blinds

Dimout roller blinds also known as “wabi sabi” blinds are sunscreen roller blinds made with translucent fabric that filters harsh sunlight and reduces glare so that you can have soft ambient natural light at home. It can also provide:

  • Full privacy both day and night compared to perforated blinds.
  • Natural lighting in the living room, study room or kitchen while still maintaining privacy

Perforated Roller Blinds

Perforated roller blinds are made with small holes in the fabric to allow some natural light to filter through while still providing privacy. Some things to note:

  • Living room or service yard as it will offer you the privacy you need while still filtering away harsh sunlight
  • It isn’t suitable for night time and should be combined with blackout blinds or night curtains for your privacy

Outdoor Roller Blinds

Outdoor roller blinds are usually perforated in material to allow light to come in from your balcony or service yard. They are installed with stainless steel wind guard to prevent your blinds from flying around. These blinds are a great addition to your balcony as it can help to block out wind and rain.

Once you have decided on the type of roller blinds, you can decide on the mechanism. We currently have three options available:

  • Pulley Chain (Manual)
  • One-touch System (Manual)
  • Motorised System (Automatic)

For regular sized windows, we recommend having the pulley chain roller blinds. If you have kids or pets, we recommend the one-touch system to reduce the risk of injuries or damage.

For high ceiling or wider windows, we recommend motorised system as it reduces any issues or damages caused due to manual pulling on a heavy set of blind.

With the variety of fabric you can choose from for roller blinds, they can be used as a privacy “screen” for windows, window shade, bathroom privacy blinds and even as projector screen.

The best type of roller blinds for you would depend on the usage and room you are in.

In the bedroom, we recommend having blackout roller blinds, or dual blinds with blackout and either dimout (wabi sabi) or perforated roller blinds. This is so that you have higher control over your privacy and light control.

For living rooms, we recommend having either dimout or perforated blinds. For more privacy, dimout roller blinds will be the best as it blocks out the view for onlookers as well as harsh sunlight. Perforated roller blinds can filter out harsh sunlight but when passerby are closer or when it’s night time, you lose a level of privacy.

For kitchen or service yard, we also recommend dimout roller blinds for more privacy.

Our roller blinds typically last for more than 5 years. We also provide a 2-year limited warranty on our blinds. These blinds are designed to be durable, easy-to-clean, comes with a wide range of colours, patterns and types and the basic models are also affordable to install.

Roller blinds are gaining popularity in homes because of its low maintenance and ease of use and also because it is highly similar to Korean Blinds. This blinds is a great choice for homes as it provides complete privacy and has the option to block out sunlight. By blocking out harsh sunlight, it also helps to reduce electricity usage because the room is kept cooler.

Our blinds are constructed with high quality steel tubes. The operating mechanism include pulley style, one-touch system and motor (automated/motorised).

For manual pulley style, you can choose to open or close the blinds by pulling on the chain.

For one-touch system, you only have to pull or push the blinds slightly to operate it.

We are also able to provide automated smart roller blinds with our Somfy or Dooya system. It is a great option for savvy home and office who require such time saving convenience.

Roller blinds is one of the most affordable blinds type available. However, the cost can add up when you have either a small window or big window area. This is because there is a minimum size for each set and a maximum size for each set.

Maximum size would mean that a big panel of window will require multiple sets of window blinds so as to prolong the lifespan of your roller blinds – too heavy, it will be difficult to operate and damage the parts over time.

 

To clean your blinds, roll it down until fully extended. Then use a vacuum with brush attachment to remove any dust or debris. You can also use a feather duster to dust it occasionally. Following which, you can wipe it down with a damp cloth or sponge to complete the job.
